“Get To Know Me” - Mateo

While we’re on the track of simply beautiful music…

I’ll get to know you, Mateo. Also, calling all artists (namely Chris Bryant and Eric Holljes): you could make a great cover of this joint…and the part where the crowd sings along, I can see the folks of Durham singing already. Bull City!

“Always Like This” - Bombay Bicycle Club

Back to the roots of this blog: post beautiful music. The lead singer’s voice practically quivers-you can almost feel it.

If I follow the light that I deem the brightest

It wont believe that it’s always like this

“90210” - Wale (prod. Mark Ronson)

Big shout to Ben (aka DJ heavy E) for sending me a bunch of tracks to listen to today. I’ve got a good lineup coming, but throwing this one at yall first. Some really dope Wale…and I’ve been hating on Wale lately. Of course I love the production by Mr. Ronson. Funny take on what Hollywood can do to people. Even funnier is the degree of separation here…Ronson produced the track, is the brother of Sam Ronson, who was the girlfriend of…Lindsay Lohan. This track could easily be about Lohan. …And to top it off, check this picture out:

“I’m Deaf and You’re Boring” - You, You’re Awesome

I can’t understand the French on this track, but what I can tell you is that this is one funky jam. Totally different but when it breaks out into the major chord progressions (example, right around the 1 minute mark), it might just make you want to break out into dance.

They list themselves on MySpace as experimental/live electronics/rock. I guess I’d categorize it as that, although it’s hard to say what exactly this is! These two guys (Kevin Bayer on the drums, Yusuf Quotah in charge of the rest) are definitely capturing my attention with this one, though!

MUSIC VIDEO: “Fireflies” - Owl City

Okay so not to toot my own horn or anything (…this is clearly me horn-tooting), but I must remind yall that I started featuring Owl City on here in February-now he’s making it big. Just goes to show that you can hear about artists first here on sunset in the rear view. Okay, enough of that.

This music video is crazy. If you ever had a childhood (if not, I’m very sorry and please don’t go all Michael Jackson on us), you should feel a little nostalgic when you see some of these things. The weird thing is, I honestly walked into a store yesterday that looked just like this room. All antique toys and gadgets. So I knew this guy recorded out of his basement, but if this is what his room looks like for real, that’s just nuts.

Another Mike Posner video. Hiphopofficial.com interviews Mike. Pretty happy to see an old friend doing so well, and on top of all that, being so happy.

FEATURED: “Take Yo Bitch” - Wiz Khalifa off Burn After Rolling

Wiz Khalifa dropped his mixtape today called Burn After Rolling. Just finished listening to the whole thing through and it’s definitely worth downloading. There’s only a song or two that I can’t say I love, but the rest I really like. There are some recognizable beats (“If I Were A Boy,” “Knock You Down,” “Diva,” to name a few) and all around good rhyming by Wiz. This featured song is probably my favorite off the album. Track listing and mixtape cover below.

New Artist Profile: iyaDedE

RWANDAN ELECTRO-POP. I love finding new music like this. I would love to say this was a complete steal of a find, but iyaDedE is quickly rising in the ranks and is now being compared to the likes of Goldfrapp and Santigold.

Born and raised in Rwanda, iyaDedE (pronounced eeya deh deh) has now lived on 3 continents after escaping the genocide of 1994 by fleeing to Belgium, and now living in Brooklyn, NY. Her mother was a popular radio DJ in Rwanda and iyaDedE has decided to pursue the same passion. In addition to all of this, she speaks four languages!

She is known to love rock and soul music and blend the two into grimy electronica with the touch of clever words in both English and Kinyarwanda (native Rwandan language).

One of the featured tracks, “Brimstone and Fire,” is an “urgent post-punk anthem about colonization.”

“Lonelily” - Damien Rice

I’ve been posting a lot of hip hop recently and wanted to switch it up a bit. Here’s a beautiful song by the soft, whispery-voiced Damien Rice.

Kicks of the Day!

Once again featuring sunset-approved kicks. I haven’t seen any for girls that I have liked even remotely, so these are for the males.

1. Lacoste Missouri 85 Mid Black/Multi.

These are some of the flyest shoes I’ve seen in a while. Check for a release sometime in November at Atmos.

2. No Age x Emerica the Archer

Ed Templeton worked with the 2 guys in the rock group “No Age” and created this shoe out of completely organic and synthetic materials but that is designed to survive the wear and tear of skateboarding. All three designers are vegan, which led to the organic shoe design.

3. Vans Syndicate Low Chukka French Military Pack | A La Vie

Gotta be honest, I have no idea what it says on the side of the shoe because I don’t speak a word of French. Pretty dope nonetheless. Now available from Flatspot.

4. Clae Kennedy Stussy LA Edition

Only 100 pairs of these shoes were produced. Imagine being one to own them? Damn. 24 pairs available at clae.com, others found in various places.
